New Vista offers a range of school design workshops and ongoing architectural consultation to school groups, districts, and architectural firms interested in maximizing the success of their school design process. Our projects run the gamut from high- and mid-budget new construction and renovations, to large school conversions, to modular and temporary campuses, to low or no budget school "makeovers." Tailored to the needs of each new project, New Vista design consultation aims to quickly educate design teams and stakeholders on current research and best practices in school programming and facility design, and engage all participants in a thoughtful design experience that generates inspired design solutions.

New Vista's David Stephen is hired by architectural firms as an educational programmer and curriculum specialist, and by school groups or developers as an owner's representative. In each of these scenarios, New Vista can assist in all phases of the design process.

New Vista design workshops aim to build ownership and excitement amongst participants while modeling good hands-on teaching and learning practices. It is often most effective to invite a range of stakeholders to take part in design workshops, including students, parents, and school board members. Each workshop provides a mix of multi-media presentation, large and small group process, hands-on and project-based activities, performance-based assessment, exhibition, and individual reflection. The following workshop topics and activities can be mixed and matched as appropriate, although some follow a pattern dictated by the sequential nature of the design process. Time frames vary from two hours to three days for any given workshop. For more information about workshops and fees, please contact David Stephen at
