The result of an innovative partnership between the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and the Science Center. Focusing on STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math), MC2 STEM High School seeks to make science education come alive.
MC2 STEM Academy is located outside of Cleveland at General Electric’s Nela Park, a corporate campus housing the GE lighting and industrial unit’s research and development headquarters. With expert mentors and apprenticeship opportunities readily available to them, the schools’ 9-10 grade students engage in real-world problem solving at a level rarely found in today’s schools. A flagship site of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Ohio STEM Initiative, MC2 STEM houses 11-12 grade programs in downtown Cleveland.
At the request of The Center for Excellence in STEM (TIES), New Vista Design worked with Architects of Achievement to create the conceptual design for the MC2 STEM facility. The renovated 25,000 sq. ft. former office building boasts a wide variety of highly flexible classroom spaces, a Fabrication (FAB) Lab based on the model created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Robotics Lab with an adjacent outdoor courtyard for building and storing large-scaled projects such as electric-powered vehicles.
